Ansonia Public Schools is a small, urban school district located in the Lower Naugatuck Valley area of Connecticut . There are 2,700 students attending four schools in the district: Ansonia High School (Gr. 9-12), Ansonia Middle School (Gr. 6-8), John C. Mead School (Gr. 3-5) and John G. Prendergast School (PreK-Grade 2).
Ansonia has state-of-the-art buildings, thanks to
a $50.5 million building project called “Ansonia 2001,” which
brought a new high school and renovations and/or additions
to three of its newest school buildings. The new Ansonia High School opened in September 1999 while the other three schools reopened in September 2000.

Ansonia operates two grant-funded programs: an alternative education program for middle and high school students and an early education School Readiness program for Ansonia children ages 3 and 4.
