| On behalf of the Mead School staff I would like to welcome you to our school family.
We are committed to the belief that high expectations, life skills and the foundational skills of Reading, Math and Language Arts are essential in the education of all of our students. They are key elements for future success. We also believe that creating an atmosphere where Mead School students, Stay Safe, Show Respect, and Try Their Best, is critical to sustained learning and development. More importantly, collaboration, cooperation and building a partnership with parents, teachers, students and the community are vital factors for school success.
At Mead School we take the extra step to keep the line of communication open between the home and school. Parents can access school and district information, activities, policies and special events through our website and can also communicate with staff electronically through email. Parents and students who are entering third grade are provided a “Getting to Know You Night” which serves as an orientation and a pleasant way to meet the incoming parents. A school handbook, monthly newsletters and calendars of events are sent home with the students and can also be accessed on the website. All students are provided an agenda book that allows them to write down daily homework assignments and serves as an additional means of communication between the teacher and parent. Our staff members contact parents through a variety of ways which can include phone conversations, notes, newsletters, flyers, Friday folders, progress reports, report cards, parent teacher conferences, conduct letters and home visits. The school Social Worker, Psychologist and Nurse maintain constant contact with parents through meetings, letters, phone, and home visitations regarding attendance, dress code policy, special services and health related issues.
Our Parent Teacher Organization is very active and helps to augment the home school connection by supporting classroom activities such as: Meet the Teachers Night, Family Math and Reading Nights, Family Movie Night, Book Fairs, Family Book Fair Night, Grade 5 Parent Child Social and many other activities.
We encourage parents and the community to attend and participate in our Mentoring Program, Connecticut Loves to Read activities, Veteran’s Day Program, Arts and Music Festival, Talent Show, Cultural Festival, Class Plays, DARE, Student of the Month, Honors and Attendance Recognition Programs. At Mead School we maintain an open door policy and encourage parents and community organizations to get involved, stay involved and visit the school with a heart, in the heart of Ansonia. Sincerely, Terri D. Goldson, Sr. Principal Mead School
