John G. Prendergast School is a Pre-K through Grade 2 school serving 770 children in Ansonia. It is located at 59 Finney Street in the Hilltop section of the city.
Welcome Spring!
Thanks to a school building project, our elementary school boasts state-of-the-art technology, with computers in each classroom in addition to a computer lab; a large, bright media center; and a cafeteria featuring a mural of life-sized "ABCs," depicting each letter with items that represent the sound for children to learn from. This mural was designed by our art teacher, and painted by parents, students and volunteers.

Prendergast is a Reading First school, thanks to a grant from the State Department of Education. Reading First brought a new language arts curriculum to the entire school.

The beautiful mural pictured at the top of this page is in the front entrance of the school and reads, "We all smile in the same language." This was painted and designed by our Art teacher, Mrs. Danine Curtis, who received input from staff and students. Each child helped to paint the flag that represented his/her country of origin. Some of the countries represented at Prendergast School are: Pakistan, Turkey, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Poland, Japan, India, Vietnam and Yugoslavia. We also have large flags hanging in the foyer across from the office to represent the many countries of Prendergast School children.
"The Heart of Prendergast School" Another creation by Art teacher Danine Curtis. Each heart represents the students and staff at Prendergast School.
