The Prendergast learning community welcomes Mr. Joseph Apicella to the administrative staff.  Mr. Apicella has shared his teaching talents as a Grade 3 teacher at Mead School and his administrative abilities as a Teacher on Special Assignment during the 2009-2010 school year.  Good luck, Mr. Apicella!

John G. Prendergast School is the home of over 830 K-6 scholars.  Mr. DiPalma, Principal and Mr. Apicella, Assistant Principal, work relentlessly with a staff of over 140 to support, challenge, motivate and inspire students as they acquire the skills necessary to be life long learners and leaders.

Thanks to a school building project, our elementary school boasts state-of-the-art technology, with computers in each classroom in addition to a computer lab; a large, bright media center; and a cafeteria featuring a mural of life-sized "ABCs," depicting each letter with items that represent the sound for children to learn from.  This mural was designed by our art teacher, and painted by parents, students and volunteers.

Math Mentors

Beginning the last week of February, over 50 students from Grades 4-6 became “Math Mentors.” This program is the “brain child” of Ms. Koziel, Grade 4 teacher. Our mentors will help students in Grades 1-3 with basic math concepts and skills through a variety of math activities and games.

The 55 “mentees” are picked up by their mentors once a week and spend 30 minutes reinforcing grade level math skills. This program not only provides students in Grades 1-3 with an opportunity to enhance math concepts, but it also allows mentors to strengthen their leadership skills by working with and guiding their younger peers.

You might ask what is The Prendergast School Pledge?  It is the code of conduct by which the adults and children of Prendergast School community live.

Each morning during announcements the Prendergast community will recite this together, all grades,  many voices but one pledge.

Prendergast School Pledge

As a member of the Prendergast School community,

I will be the best I can be.

I will respect myself.

I will treat all people with respect.

I will take responsibility for what I say and do.

I will resolve all conflicts peacefully.

I will respect the property of others.

I will make positive contributions to my school community.

I will believe in myself.
