School Building Committee

Purpose

The Ansonia School Building Committee was established by the Board of Aldermen to oversee and guide all aspects of the design, construction, and renovation of school facilities within the Ansonia Public Schools. Presently, the Ansonia Public Schools facilities range in age from 88 to 25 years old.  In addition to providing educational services, these facilities also serve as social and recreational hubs for the community.  The Committee ensures that the facilities are meeting educational and community needs.  Additionally, the School Building Committee serves to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with educational goals, safety standards, and community expectations.

The Committee’s primary responsibility is to serve as a liaison between the City of Ansonia, the Board of Education, and the community — ensuring transparency, accountability, and collaboration throughout each phase of the building process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing architectural design and construction progress

  • Reviewing budgets, schedules, and change orders

  • Coordinating with the State Office of School Construction Grants & Review (OSCGR)

  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal building requirements

  • Providing regular updates to the Board of Aldermen and the Board of Education
