Special Services Mission Statement:

Ansonia Special Services Department prides itself on guaranteeing that all students receiving special education services have access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) to prepare them for post-secondary education or training, employment, independent living, and community participation.  Our main focus is on building strong relationships and rapport with students, parents/guardians, community members/agencies, health care providers, and educator colleagues. These strong partnerships have been developed to provide a comprehensive integrated educational program of instruction and social-emotional services.  Special education and general education staff work on a collaborative and consistent basis to foster learning environments conducive to supporting all students in their journey to achieve Ansonia's rigorous standards.  Within this environment, a strong emphasis is placed on developing trust so that students will be able to take academic risks and actively engage in the work, improving outcomes for all. Parents/guardians and families are intricate, meaningful partners in the Planning and Placement Team Process and Ansonia Public Schools believes that communication and collaboration between home and school are vital in fostering success for all students.
