Guidance Department

Program of Studies

Add/Drop Information:  Add/Drop requests will be processed in order of priority and in the order in which we receive forms.  For example, a senior who needs to add a graduation requirement will take precedence over an underclass student who wants to switch an elective.

Add/Drop Information:   The Add/Drop period will open Thursday, 1/19/23 at 7am.  You must attend at least 1 class session in order to drop a class.  The exception to this rule is if you have already taken and passed the class.  In that case, please email your counselor to make the change.  Otherwise, please fill out the form that follows.  Also remember, Add/Drop requests will be processed in order of priority and in the order in which we receive forms.  For example, a senior who needs to add a graduation requirement will take precedence over an underclass student who wants to switch an elective.   As always, email your counselor if you have any questions or concerns.  Spring 2023 ADD/DROP

Seniors:  Please Visit the Senior Information Link (on the right) for important information and forms to assist you in applying for college.  Guidance Counselors are available to help.

The guidance department advocates for each student on three primary levels: academic, social/personal, and career. Each counselor works with a specific student case load, assisting each student to develop and successfully complete a comprehensive program of studies. With passion and respect for individual needs and priorities for the future, total credit and course requirements for graduation are merged to thoroughly assist each student and respective family.

Consulting with teachers and parents, recommendation for post secondary planning, and providing educational and vocational materials encompass the daily services provided to each student by our department. The registration, orientation, and transition of new students to AHS also remain a focus of our responsibility.

Our doors are always open and we look forward to working with all constituents within our school community.

The Guidance Department provides up-to-date information about course selection, careers, colleges, technical and vocational schools, college entrance examinations, military service, and guidance for personal/social adjustment. Counselors offer additional services such as individual and group counseling sessions, financial aid seminars, standardized testing and scholarship participation. Counselors are available to all students, parents and graduates.

Students may make an appointment to see their counselor through the guidance secretary.
